We are delighted to announce the Tata Consultancy Services – EducationWorld Teachers’ Award 2008 and invite nominations for the Award.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is in the knowledge business, we realize the important role teachers play in grooming young minds. The quality of teaching-learning in the classroom will determine the innovative thinkers of tomorrow. We wish to invest in the future and reward teachers who are making a difference today.

EducationWorld (Established in 1999) is India’s pioneer education news and analysis magazine with a readership of 550,000 countrywide. Every month EW features institutions of learning in India and abroad, offers career counseling advice, education-related news from around the world and insightful comment from high-quality columnists and interviews with committed educationists.

In 2005, TCS together with EducationWorld instituted a Teachers’ award for ‘Innovations in the Classroom’. The Award is TCS’ way of appreciating innovative and creative techniques of teaching. The award honours two National level winners – in the primary/middle and secondary school categories.

Winners of the TCS-EW Teachers’ Award 2007 were given handsome prizes – laptop computers and cash amongst other awards. All finalists were invited to Chennai (all expenses paid) and received handsome prizes.

Only primary/middle and secondary school teachers are eligible for the 2008 awards. A parent, the Principal or a fellow teacher can nominate, self nominations are also admissible. The nomination form can be photocopied for multiple nominations.

Selection Proccess for TCS-EW Teachers' Award

Selecting India’s best teachers begins with advertising of the awards in EducationWorld and a contact program in schools across the country. The advertisements / posters invite all involved with education — principals, parents, school managements — to nominate innovative and/or exceptional teachers (in primary and secondary schools) for the awards. Self nominations are also welcome.

The nominations will be scrutinized by IL&FS Education and Technology Services Ltd (IETS), the education consultancy and training subsidiary of the Mumbai-based construction and infrastructure financing major IL&FS. Currently IL&FS- ETS is India’s largest curriculum content and development company.

Following initial scrutiny of nominations from across the country, 25 teachers will be shortlisted. The  shortlisted teachers will be asked to submit 300-500-word essays detailing their teaching innovations and/or best classroom practices. After assessment and evaluation of the essays received from the 25 school teachers countrywide, eight teachers would be invited for a personal interview by a panel of distinguished judges comprising representatives from Tata Consultancy Services, EducationWorld and IL&FS.
