JD Edwards System Assessment

ERP systems, which evolved out of manufacturing resource-planning systems, use data from a wide range of business areas to provide cross-departmental management and process information. Despite the principal usefulness of the concept, ERP system implementations can fail to deliver expected results if not adequately managed and controlled. TCS’ JD Edwards Audit framework helps organizations address their key concerns related to implementations and provides recommendations and a roadmap for future improvements.

Business Challenges

  • Failure to meet user requirements and integrate
  • Incompatibility with technical infrastructure
  • Vendor support problems
  • Expensive and complex installations

 What TCS Provides

TCS provides the following three types of JD Edwards System Assessments:

  • JD Edwards Implementation Audit: We assess the health of the implementation process including the following:
    • Management
    • System design
    • Change management aspects
    • Knowledge sharing process
    • Transition readiness of the organization
  • JD Edwards System Audit: We assess the effectiveness of the current JD Edwards system.
  • Failed JD Edwards Implementation Audit: We undertake a post-facto analysis to understand the causes of failure and recommend a corrective action plan.

We leverage our domain expertise and JD Edwards’ functional knowledge to cover the following aspects of the system assessment:

  • Whether the system designed addresses the key challenges of the client?
  • Whether the system design considered present practices and future plans of growth?
  • Whether best practices are followed in similar industries (key to identifying and optimizing non-value-adding activities)?
  • Whether the system adheres to application security and control aspects (segregation of duties)?
  • Whether the system is capable of generating reports as per requirements?
  • Whether the system suggested can be easily integrated (for example, capability to support the latest integration technologies like web services, fusion middleware, etc.) with other peripheral systems?
  • Whether customizations have been done considering upgradeability and maintainability?
  • Whether the system is maintainable and scalable?

the TCS Approach

Considering the criticality and complexity of the implementation at a particular site, we, at TCS, suggest the following approach:

  • Organize a kick-off meeting to highlight the objective of the engagement, identify key process owners and seek organizational responsibility for the study
  • Form a multi-disciplinary team consisting of business domain experts and JD Edwards functional and technical (covering development, integration, CNC) consultants as well as hardware and networking experts
  • Visit the deployment site to interview key functional / process owners / IT personnel and select group of end users as per discussions with the program director to capture the relevant information
  • Closely co-ordinate between TCS personnel and the core client team
  • Review and validate the draft version of the assessment report prepared by the core client team
  • Present to the client project sponsor
  • Deliver the final assessment report to the client

Business Value

  • Nearly risk-free deployment, safeguarding the internal controls and compliance of the enterprise
  • System design is aligned to achieve organizational objectives and is compliant with the financial audits
  • Improved operational effectiveness, efficiency and security
