Corporate governance is not an easy task, especially in a country like India, where the system is based on millions of paper documents. As the country’s economy expands, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) required a system that would reflect India's corporate governance goals for the 21st century and create a business-friendly environment for both Indian and foreign companies.
The MCA conceptualized the MCA 21 initiative, which included the following:
- Digitizing about 45 million paper documents in MCA’s archives
- Setting up a data center
- Building the computing infrastructure
- Setting up 52 facilitation centers
- Designing the application software
- Setting up secure electronic payment gateways
The MCA selected TCS to implement the project nationwide, and we took less than a year and a half year to complete the program in its entirety. Our MCA 21 solution involved digitizing old records, automating the ministry’s internal processes, computerizing the entire payroll and administration functions, training the ministry staff and creating a portal that provides 24/7 access to all stakeholders.
