Case Study

TCS implements a new information platform for an online publisher

TCS helped an online publisher create an online market center that would allow its customers to view market prices, fundamental price tables, stock charts and energy news in real time.

The Customer: A leading global provider of energy, petrochemicals and metals information and a premier source of benchmark prices for the physical and futures markets

Business Scenario
TCS’ client, focused on the energy domain, provides must-read trade content and an accurate and unbiased inside look at the industry - from real-time energy trading news and price information to all the trends that reshape the dynamic global energy market. It wanted to create an online market center, which would allow its customers to view market prices, fundamental price tables, stock charts and energy news instantly, without having to wait for their subscribed newsletters. The company also wished to provide mobile, keyword-based alerts to its users.

Why TCS?
TCS was chosen due to its proven track record due to its association with the customer, its technical expertise and in-depth domain understanding.

TCS’ Solution
We implemented an online solution through which the company could provide its customers the ability to access data using mobile devices and read news, sign up for alerts and build customized reports instantly. We made extensive use of the capabilities of the MarkLogic Server for this project, storing all market data in different formats including XML, images and PDFs in the MarkLogic repository. Automated workflows were developed to provide content enrichment using Temis-Luxid, and an in-house rule engine was built to provide additional capability.

Key Benefits
We implemented an online solution through which the company could provide its customers with the following abilities instantly:

  • Subscribers are able to access the market commentaries as soon as they are published by the company.
  • Subscribers have access to online only content in addition to the stories included in the day end newsletter.
  • Content enriched with contextual metadata is delivered to the subscribers, resulting in better content discovery and content linkages.
