With continued emphasis on the greening of IT by cutting energy consumption, managing IT assets through their lifecycle, monitoring carbon emissions for the business, etc, a green strategy should be part of a broader ‘sustainability’ strategy. This means integrating the economic, environmental and social aspects into business strategy and attack short-termism. What’s emerging is a complex patchwork of issues that point to a sustainability approach rather than one specific issue. IT has a leading enablement role and is a key to sustained competitive advantage, as IT ensures the business is scalable and agile whilst being operationally and cost efficient.
