Beyond the Economic Crisis: Success and Sustainability - Prof. Pankaj Ghemawat

With continued emphasis on the greening of IT by cutting energy consumption, managing IT assets through their lifecycle, monitoring carbon emissions for the business, etc, a green strategy should be part of a broader ‘sustainability’ strategy.  This means integrating the economic, environmental and social aspects into business strategy and attack short-termism.  What’s emerging is a complex patchwork of issues that point to a sustainability approach rather than one specific issue.  IT has a leading enablement role and is a key to sustained competitive advantage, as IT ensures the business is scalable and agile whilst being operationally and cost efficient.

Pankaj Ghemawat - Professor of Global Strategy at IESE Business School, who is an expert in the area of performance sustainability explains the links between economic and environmental sustainability and the role IT plays in this.
