TCSers in Minneapolis pack 38,000+ meals for kids in Guatemala

April 6, 2016

It was a weekend well spent for our folks in Minneapolis who got together along with their families to help feed kids in Guatemala as a part ofthe fifth edition of Tata Volunteering Week. This special Tata Group initiative is a month long affair which offers volunteering opportunities for employees across the group, along with family members and retirees to create an impact in society.

The Minneapolis initiative was in collaboration with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), a non-profit organization committed to feeding hungry children and eliminating starvation. It works with volunteers who hand-pack meals specially formulated for malnourished children, which are then sent to their partners around the world and used to operate orphanages, schools, clinics and feeding programs.

An excited and passionate group of 60+ TCSers and their folks got together and made over 38,000 meals, packed 170+ boxes, sufficient for feeding 106 children in Guatemala for a year. TCSer Arun D’souza, who helped organize this initiative says, “Impact through empowerment is what I experienced firsthand while championing this event. Through our efforts, 106 kids will experience nutritional certainty for a year and that’s just amazing!”

Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) over the years has worked to develop a food mixture that would be easy and safe to transport, simple to make, and culturally acceptable worldwide. MannaPackRice, is a formula consisting of rice, extruded soy nuggets and dehydrated vegetables to give growing children the critical nutritional elements they need.

Packaged in small pouches, this easy-to-prepare food blend has won rave reviews all over the world. While the formula was designed to save the lives of severely malnourished and starving children, the ingredients also improve the health, growth and physical well-being of children who are no longer in immediate danger of starvation. A team of food scientists continues to monitor the FMSC formula to ensure that it meets nutritional needs of the world's hungry children.

TCS is proud to partner with Feed My Starving Children and play its part in curbing starvation among hungry children across the world.
