In an interview with the CIO Magazine, Milind Lakkad, VP and Global Head, Manufacturing and Sreenivasa Chakravarti, Head Manufacturing Innovation and Transformation Group shared their views on how digital technology is reinventing the manufacturing industry. Discussing TCS’ recent white paper – Manufacturing Reinvented, they mentioned that manufacturing organizations need to diversify and refresh their portfolios at top speed, in a bid to beat the ever-increasing competition. According to them, High Performance Computing (HPC), Big Data Analytics, 3-D manufacturing and machine-to-machine technology are key emerging technologies that are helping manufacturers meet market demands with agility and speed.
When asked how the industry can better align with the customers’ needs, our experts said that by replacing intermediary channels with direct customer touch-points, manufacturers can secure useful insights into the end users' behavior, consumption patterns, and changing expectations. Thus, there is an overall paradigm shift from engineering and operations to collaboration and customer centricity.
