At Tata Consultancy Services’ Seven Hills Park in Cincinati, Ohio, employees are volunteering their time, energy, and green fingers to help address food insecurity in the local community.
In Cincinnati, 33% of families experience food insecurity – more than 30% higher than the national average. This was an issue that TCS employees at Seven Hills Park were united in wanting to address – and the seeds of the solution were literally planted in 2018; in the form of a community garden tended to and harvested by TCS employees.
In 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbating the challenges Cincinnati families faced, the community garden was expanded to 3,500 sq. Ft. - and now produces over 80lbs of fresh produce harvested every week by employees.
All of the fresh produce is then donated to local non-profits MercyWorks, Health Source Ohio, Clermont County Community Services, and the James Sauls Homeless Shelter, who distribute it to local families in need.
Thomas Osborn, Operations Lead, Cincinnati GDC, said:
"It makes a big difference when you can say that Tata consultancy Services has helped the community by literally growing and giving them food to ear – especially this year.”
The green-fingered volunteers from TCS have no plans to slow down production of fresh produce – and are even planning to move gardening operations under shelter to enable them to keep feeding their hungry neighbors even during the winter months.
