New York City and the surrounding area have been some of the hardest hit by the impact of COVID-19. While social isolati.on and quarantine had helped fight back against the spread of this devastating disease, front line healthcare and emergency workers are still putting their lives on the line to protect their friends and neighbors throughout this crisis.
One such example is Michael Sassi, a member of TCS' Administrative Team in Edison, New Jersey. In addition to the skills and experience he brings to the company, Michael also demonstrates the values that attract many people to work for TCS.
"Any time I'm not working for TCS, I'm on call responding to emergencies as and when they come in," Michael says. "I've been doing this for 26 years, so giving back to the community is second nature to me.
"Michael has over two-decades of experience in firefighting - rising to the rank of Deputy Chief in 2011. Today, he and his team of volunteers operate out of Old Bridge - the first on the scene in the case of emergency. Michael is especially cognizant of the risks and challenges firefighters face during this period, as in addition to his own volunteer work in New Jersey, his son is a firefighter in New York City - the hub for infections in the United States. COVID-19 has added just one more layer of complication and risk to an already challenging, dangerous, but essential role.
"We're wearing surgical gloves and masks when we interact with the public," he explains, "and practicing social isolation - but we still need to respond to calls as and when they come in, and be ready for whatever we find.
"Michael's colleagues and coworkers at TCS have huge admiration for what Michael does, and support him with pride.
"My manager has made me responsible for fire drills and checking fire equipment," Michael explains - another example of how TCS leverages the knowledge and experience of its employees in support of each other.
During this time especially, we're all extremely grateful for everything Michael does - and for what he contributes to the culture of TCS through his generosity and bravery.
