goIT Summer Camp Engages Students to Find Solutions for Climate Change
TCS organized a 7 hours EU goIT Virtual Summer Camp from 26th to 30th July 2021 for 113 students.
Dr. Fodor Eniko, program manager of goIT in Europe and 7 TCS volunteers: Neha Sule and Nouria Khan (TCS Belgium), Judith Bucher, Laura Barbier and Aitor Garcia Manso (TCS Switzerland), Christiaan Marnix Bos and Mohammed Akbar (TCS Netherlands), presented the goIT program and the importance of acquiring STEM skills by children for future.
From 15 countries 113 kids between the age of 6 and 14 signed up for the workshop and created storyboards and prototypes for their mobile application to solve Climate Action issues (SDG #13), while practicing the Design Thinking method. 10 teams created wonderful storyboards, like: Climate Zone, Plastic zero, Marine Life, Ozone app etc. to solve problems.
This workshop is part of the goIT program of Tata Consultancy Services, where we want to bring kids into contact with IT in a fun and interactive way.
The Culmination Event was held on 30th July, when Nikhil Kulkarni Sub ISU Head Manufacturing EU was our guest to share his experience and evaluate the presentations.
Based on pre- and post-survey the workshop increased the number of kids, who will likely pursue a career in Computer Science, with 16% and the number of children, who think that he/she can make a positive impact in his/her own community by 42%. Way to go and prepare the next generation to create better place on Earth.
Participants found the sessions very interesting and an eye-opener. Volunteers experienced the overwhelming energy of 113 kids and it was an enriching experience for all.
