A record-breaking 53,000+ runners from around the globe took to the streets of New York for the TCS New York City Marathon on November 3, 2019, alongside over 700 Team TCS runners (featuring our clients, prospects, guests, employees and Team TCS Teachers).
As title sponsor of this premier running event, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is committed to launching new and innovative activations to support the race. One such technologically advanced innovation, the TCS-powered marathon app, reached a new world record of over 492,000 downloads in 2019, representing a 12.4% increase over the previous year.
The app saw several new features in 2019, including advanced runner tracking for unlimited number of runners, with mile-by-mile splits starting at mile three; an optimized spectator guide that helped fans create itineraries to navigate New York City; and new augmented reality integrations.
Also new this year was the TCS Interactive-created VR wheelchair racing experience called Marathon City: Spin to Win. This immersive activation allowed users to understand first-hand the unique experience of wheelchair racers. Daniel Romanchuk, a 21-year-old American wheelchair athlete and the reigning TCS New York City Marathon elite wheelchair category champion, praised the activation’s role in helping to build awareness and understanding about this sport.
