Rajesh Gopinathan is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading global IT solutions and consulting firm. He was elevated to the role of Chief Executive Officer in February 2017 after serving as the Chief Financial Officer since 2013. In 2022, he was re-appointed as MD and CEO for five more years.

Rajesh has played a key role in making TCS the partner of choice for Fortune 500 companies embarking on their growth and transformation journeys. He has been instrumental in helping TCS become a US $25.7 billion global company at the end of FY22 and the largest private sector employer with over 613,000 associates.

Under his leadership TCS’ market capitalization crossed US $167.86 billion in FY22-23, making TCS the Second Most Valuable Company in India. He also helped TCS cross a trailblazing net profit mark of Rs 10,846 crore in the third quarter of FY22-23. Under his leadership, TCS’ brand value increased by 212% to US $45.5 billion in the past two years, recognizing it as the Most Valuable Indian brand in 2022 by Kantar BrandZ India rankings.

He was also inducted by the government in the Board of Trade, a top advisory body on external trade, and was awarded India’s Best CEO award by Business Today in January 2021. In 2020 he was awarded IT, person of the Year, by Dataquest, Outstanding Business Leader of The Year award by CNBC TV18 IBLA, and Management Man Achiever of the year by Bombay Management Association in 2019.

An electrical and electronic engineer from REC Trichy (now NIT, Trichy), Rajesh graduated in 1994, before pursuing his Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM, Ahmedabad.

Mr. Gopinathan has been featured as one of the Most Valuable CEOs in 2022 by Businessworld for his vital role in navigating TCS during the pandemic and post-pandemic years.
