Georgios Antikatzidis – Lead Enterprise Architect, Lloyds Bank

Growing up, I never considered myself a runner. It wasn’t until a motorcycle accident in my youth that I truly discovered the power of resilience and determination. After nearly losing my life and suffering through over 17 leg fractures, I was told I was unlikely to walk without a limp again. But I refused to give up. Through months of painful physiotherapy and three additional surgeries, I eventually rid myself of crutches and even climbed a mountain 20 months after the accident.

Years later, I entered a corporate race challenge and decided to try running for the first time in my life. I started with a 5k programme and slowly but surely worked my way up to running 10k races. In a moment of madness, I even entered the 2019 London Marathon ballot and was surprised to get a spot. Despite being unprepared, I completed the marathon and will be running for the third time in 2023.

Running marathons has become my way of showing my children and anyone else that anything is possible with hard work and determination. It’s not about winning or being the fastest. It’s about pushing yourself to accomplish something that once seemed impossible. The power of belief, courage, hard work and resilience to make the impossible become possible is something I hope to instil in my children and others.
