An evolutionary approach for CSPs to transform their legacy network operations

Achieving zero touch operations (ZTO) is a phased journey that spans four stages. It requires end-to-end virtualization of multiple networks spanning legacy and next-generation technologies. Before embarking on the journey, communications service providers (CSPs) must identify the maturity of their networks to establish their starting point. The journey entails four stages, beginning with traditional and culminating in reformist, as explained below:

  • Traditional – physical networks

  • Reactive – physical networks with some degree of automation

  • Progressive – largely virtualized, but with some dependency on a physical network

  • Reformist – completely virtualized and automated networks
