Laidlaw Ooty: Hari Hara Sudhan and Manikandan
GD Matric Coimbatore: Nandakishore and Vidhya Prasad
Blockbuster it was and in truly grand style. Over 1600 kids thronged the auditorium for the annual TCS quiz, a record turnout, not just for Coimbatore but for all non metro cities in India. It reflected the growing popularity of the quiz and the overwhelming interest for IT in this region. Given that some teams could hardly find a seat for themselves, quizmaster Pickbrain kept the prelim crisp and the following teams got selected for the final.
Stanes Sec. School, Coimbatore - Sriram Rajagopal and Santosh.P
Angappa Sr.Sec - Prabhakaran and Santosh Kumar
Stanes, Coonoor - Reventh Noel and Ms.Aishwarya
Laidlaw, Ooty - Hari Hara Sudhan and Manikandan
Sachidananda Jyothi Mettupalyam (SJM) - Akshay Kumar and Mithun
GD Matric, Coimbatore - Nandakishore and Vidhya Prasad
The final was a thriller with GD Matric taking the lead early and looking solid, while all teams except Stanes Coonoor scored soon in their attempt to catch up. As the quiz moved from round to another the scores also fluctuated with all teams beginning to do well and not one really cutting loose from the others.
In the buzzer phase of the quiz, Stanes Coonoor took some timely risks and got themselves back into the battle as teams like Laidlaw and GD Matric stayed a little ahead of the rest. In their attempt to push ahead GD Matric then took a crucial negative on the buzzer and the other teams got ahead of them. Laidlaw were now in the lead and playing the game with caution while all the teams were barely an answer away from the leaders, creating a perfect ground for nerves to play a big role.
In the final round of the quiz with some clever play GD Matric gained lost ground and came back strongly to finish second while the Laidlaw duo stayed calm to take the title. The finish was so close that for the first time three teams finished joint third (Stanes Coonoor, Angappa and SJM)
