Garuda Indonesia Airlines Goes Live with TCS SWIFT MRO Solution

Garuda Indonesia Airlines goes live with TCS’ SWIFT Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) application program.

Jakarta | Mumbai, Mar 19, 2014: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, today announced the go-live of a new Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) application program with PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (Garuda Indonesia Airlines), Indonesia’s national airline, via its aircraft maintenance subsidiary GMF Aeroasia.

Garuda’s relationship with TCS began in 2012 when the airline sought a solution to upgrade, consolidate and enhance its MRO technology infrastructure which was spread across numerous applications from multiple vendors. The program to implement the TCS SWIFT MRO platform moved from blueprint phase to go-live in 13 months, much faster than a typical MRO project that can take three to five years to complete. With the TCS SWIFT MRO solution, Garuda replaced over 50 legacy applications, implemented over 300 business processes, and migrated over 3 million records of data for 140 aircraft and fitted parts into a unified solution. The first phase of the project, now live, comprises the SAP-based end-to-end pre-configured SWIFT MRO solution for MRO, supply chain processes, finance and human resources modules.

“Garuda went through a rigorous MRO vendor selection process, and we chose TCS’ SWIFT MRO solution based on Garuda’s futuristic roadmap, ease of enterprise integration, lower TCO and proven track record,” said Judi Rifajantoro, EVP Strategy, Business Development and Risk Management, Garuda Indonesia. “The first phase of Garuda’s MRO transformation is now complete and in production, and phase two is coming soon, further helping the airline deliver exemplary aircraft maintenance services in line with our strong growth and development of a global leading airline brand”.

“TCS is very excited to be the transformation partner for Garuda Indonesia's MRO operations, providing rapid implementation of the industry-leading TCS SWIFT MRO solution” said S Sukanya, Vice President and Global Head of Travel Transportation and Hospitality Unit, TCS. “Asia is one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world today, and the Garuda-TCS relationship shows outstanding synergies, best exemplified by the time to market of the solution. We look forward to further partnering with Garuda to help in their endeavor to meet their incredible growth, performance and safety targets."

“Garuda’s go-live announcement today is another outstanding milestone in the airline sector for TCS Asia Pacific, further solidifying our marquee list of national and top-tier carriers from all corners of the region”, said Vish Iyer, President, TCS Asia Pacific. “TCS looks forward to continued growth in our partnership with Garuda, and we are committed to delivering the highest level of technology and services to help grow the rapidly expanding aviation market in Indonesia.”

Garuda chose TCS’ MRO solution amongst competing vendor’s solutions based on a number of key factors. One was TCS’ proven record working with leading global airlines as well as its partnership with British Airways Engineering. Another factor was live references whereby Garuda saw the solution deployed and could visualize future business processes and efficiencies.  TCS’ local presence and long-term commitment in Indonesia also assisted Garuda’s decision. Additionally, Garuda was impressed with TCS’ industry knowledge, commitment, flexibility and willingness to collaborate with Garuda’s broad ecosystem of partners and suppliers.

TCS is a recognized leader in MRO solutions and provides IT services and solutions to many of the world’s leading airlines. TCS provides an “out-of-box” SWIFT MRO solution delivered with an accelerated project implementation framework that provides an end-to-end integrated solution with ready-to-use MRO business processes. TCS’ MRO solution was developed in conjunction with British Airways Engineering, the Engineering division of British Airways.
