Bishop Cotton Boys School
St Joseph's Boys High School
Riveting, Pulsating and Exciting are adjectives that would best describe the 10th anniversary edition of TCS IT Wiz at Bangalore. It was nothing short of a carnival of knowledge, with over 1200 students from around 100 schools taking active part in it.
As the curtains went up with the lights, smoke and music, the kids were simply awestruck. In walked quizmaster Pickbrain, to unravel the rules and take the teams through a rather tough prelim. The top six schools from the prelim were:
Bishop Cotton Boys School - Thomas C.A. & Rohit Prasanna
National Public School Rajajinagar - Vignesh V & Karthik K
Frank Anthony Public School - Suraj R Nair & Ashwin Kumar
National Public School Indiranagar - Akarsh Mohan & Rohan Sharma
National Academy for Learning - Vatsal Purohit & Anvesh G
St Josephs Boys High School - Timothy Savio & Rohan Mehta
While Pickbrain kept the audience at the edge of their seats with his distinctive style of anchoring, the teams displayed great composure and maturity as they handled the pressure with relative ease. The scores were even as the quiz progressed from one round to another before the boys from Cottons decided to surge ahead on the buzzer.
After six rounds of quizzing, Thomas C.A. & Rohit Prasanna from Bishop Cotton Boys School walked away with the coveted Winner's trophy along with brand new Laptops and a host of other prizes. Interestingly, they were the runner up a year ago and even recalled the question on which they lost the title, underlining how much this quiz meant to them. The St Josephs Boys Team of Timothy Savio & Rohan Mehta took home the Runners-up trophy, along with sleek portable DVD players, digital cameras, and other goodies.
The guest of honour, Narain Karthikeyan (India's First Formula 1 Race Driver) while commenting on the high quality of quizzing, said, "While F1 and quizzing both requires mental alertness these kids seem way ahead of us". He added, " It's heartening to learn that TCS has nurtured this program for 10 years. I must congratulate all the teams who did exceedingly well."
At the end of it all, it was a perfect start to the all India quiz, that now moves to Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune.
