The IT Capital of the country, Bangalore, played the first host to the nationwide TCS IT Wiz 2011, a cerebral extravaganza that enthralls school kids across 12 cities with high quality quizzing and a fun platform to learn IT.

With over 1200 children the scene was electric and abuzz with excitement. Kids with books, notes and tips from their teachers looked all set for the occasion. The curtains rose for the inimitable Pickbrain to walk in and hurl his interesting volley of questions in the prelim.

The reaction was mixed after the prelim as some found it workable, while some 'dead easy'. The final began with some crisp videos and Pickbrain back on stage to announce the finalists.

The top six schools that made it to the final were

PSBBLLA - Adarsh & Athul G
National Public School (Koramangala) - Ajay Krishnan & Kartik Agrawal
Sri Kumaran Children's Home (CBSE) - Milind Hegde & Vikas Kashyap
Vidyaniketan Hebbal - Shashank & Nimita Naik
Frank Anthony Public School (FAPS) - Jeydev CS & Pranav K
St.Paul's English School - Pratheek & Arul Prakash

The final was an absorbing battle that had all teams start well. The Frank Anthony duo then raced ahead to a good lead before the St. Pauls team caught up with them aided by good strikes on the buzzer. The Kumaran duo then produced some thrilling answers but fell short of being able to produce that magic more often. The young teams from PSBB and Vidyaniketan which featured students from class 10 (the quiz is open till class 12) drew special mention and appreciation from the quizmaster and the audience.

Everyone was at the edge of their seats as Pickbrain thundered the final question and the St.Pauls duo backed themselves to crack the answer and clinch the title leaving FAPS to settle for a very credible runner up position. St.Pauls now qualify to the national final at Chennai scheduled for December 2011.

The teams received their amazing array of prizes from ace Indian cricketer Javagal Srinath who in his crisp comment laced with good sense of humour pointed to a 'safe future for India with such bright talent' and on being quizzed by Pickbrain on 'who he loved to dismiss as a bowler', pat came the reply 'Brian Lara'.
