The responsible use of digital identity is not only about authentication, but also in capturing it in a tamper-proof form that can be securely transmitted and used by multiple systems on a need basis. Protection of digital identity, when applied on a centralized management system, proves to be costly and not effective. Hence, blockchain is now being increasingly explored for digital identity management, given its inherent characteristics of engendering trust, transparency and user control.
The objective of this paper is to discuss the importance of digital identity, as well as to explore how
blockchain can help protect this sensitive information.
