In a recently published cover-story interview in CIO Australia, Luc Hennekens, CIO, Qantas Airways Limited, discusses how Qantas, a leading airline and flagship carrier of Australia, has awarded its new look application services contract to TCS. It is internally called ‘Project Helix’, which represents a substantial expansion of TCS-Qantas relationship.
The 5 year deal, one of Qantas largest single outsourcing agreements, was signed in late November, taking effect in the first week of December. TCS will take responsibility for the entire airline’s application management as well as maintenance services. TCS secured the ground-breaking contract following a competitive tendering process that was launched last year. The contract is designed for business-based outcomes for distinct businesses. The deal comes amid Qantas’ decision to slash $2 billion in operating costs across the business.
Luc describes the agreement as “cutting-edge and very significant”. He also adds one of the deciding factors was that TCS “understood the concept and demonstrated they can go on that journey with us”
