The need for a distributed cloud architecture for operational consistency

With the global turbulence caused by COVID-19, several enterprises have accelerated their digital transformation programs to expand digital capabilities. While a hybrid cloud solution combines a private cloud with one or more public cloud services, distributed cloud and edge computing enable real-time insights to further improve customer experience. Distributed cloud enables cloud services across geographically distributed locations, with the overall operations being centrally managed by the public cloud provider. Edge computing brings computation and data storage closer to the location to improve response times and save bandwidth. Together, distributed cloud and edge computing help improve data compression and transfer in the connectivity layer of the technology stack, reducing network bandwidth and making IoT applications possible. The solution enables the following:

  • Geographically dispersed infrastructure for improved performance, redundancy, and privacy
  • IT models to support operations anywhere
  • Security mesh and private-enhancing computation
  • Data center marketplace
  • Private 5G options for immediate value
  • New edge vendors
  • New operating models
