Mumbai | Hyderabad, September 4, 2017: Tata Consultancy Services, (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) recently conducted the fifth edition of EngiNx - "Engineering for the Next Generation" - which is a nationwide design innovation contest for engineering students. The focus is to make multi-disciplinary students, re-imagine "integration of the physical world with the digital world" by use of IoT (Internet of Things). This year theme of the contest was “If things Speak” capturing the possibilities with devices becoming intelligent and communicating.
From a total of 11,000 teams from premier engineering institutes around India, which started in round 1, top 5 raced to the finals. Each team consisted of four students from one institute. For the final round, the teams were asked to prepare a working prototype. Each team was allocated a budget of 1 lakh to develop the prototype of their solution. The following innovative models from Jaypee Institute of IT, Noida and Acropolis Institute of Technology & Research, Indore, won the top two positions respectively after a fiercely contested grand finale.
The winning team was awarded a prize money of INR 2.5 Lakhs, while the runner up team won INR 1.50 Lakhs. In addition, the finalists were awarded provisional job offers and internships, to begin their exciting careers at TCS.
Regu Ayyaswamy, Vice President, Internet of Things (IoT) and Engineering & Industrial Services, TCS, said, “ IoT is a technology disruptor and is expected to create an economic value added impact of ~ US$11 Trillion by 2025 which is equivalent to 15% of today’s Global GDP. IoT presents great opportunities for young engineers to bring both industrial and social innovation in the Digital era. TCS’ EngiNX 2017 has ignited the IoT interest amongst the participants and provided them a platform to showcase their talent in this emerging area”.
TCS’ EngiNX 2017, was conducted through TCS’ Campus Commune platform, a platfrom that connects the students in the academia with TCS careers. Launched in 2013 by TCS’ EngiNX is a contest to bring the best innovation on digital platforms. The contest is focused on nurturing budding engineers to showcase their engineering acumen with expert mentoring from TCS.
