Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been awarded the AX4 Systems Integration framework agreement by United Utilities, enabling it to comply with the Asset Management Programme requirements set by OFWAT for water companies in England and Wales. The agreement, which will run until 2010, is expected to be worth approximately £12M to TCS.
TCS has worked with United Utilities since July 2002 on AMP3 (the precursor to AX4), and this repeat order confirms United Utilities’ confidence in TCS’ engineering services ability and capacity to successfully deliver such a large capital investment programme on time.
As the systems integrator, TCS will create a standard design and implementation approach covering documentation and control techniques resulting in a standardised look and feel that is easier to use and maintain, for engineers who work on some 600 United Utilities water and waste water treatment works.
As part of its work for United Utilities to date, TCS has implemented a standard module development approach which has reduced the cost and roll-out time for more than 300 projects. Furthermore TCS’ use of the onsite/offshore model provides proof that it is a viable option for engineering services.
David Ogden, Chief EICA Engineer at United Utilities commented, “We have been hugely impressed with the services provided by TCS to date and as such are delighted to continue our partnership into the future. TCS’ engineering capabilities are proven and well established. The company has provided United Utilities with a very professional and customer-focused service and has been able to resource and deliver complex projects during periods of intense delivery pressure to a high standard. We have also been particularly impressed with the well established quality procedures and continuous improvement processes that have been put in place.”
“We are proud of the work we have done to date on AMP3 and I am delighted that United Utilities are happy with our performance over the past 4 years and have awarded TCS the AX4 Systems Integration contract,” said A.S.Lakshminarayanan, VP & Country Manager - UK & Ireland at TCS. “We see this show of confidence in us by United Utilities as an ideal platform to establish a water engineering Centre of Excellence in the UK in support of this relationship.”
Varun Kapur, Utilities Director at TCS UK said, “Awarding us the AX4 contract is testament to the quality of work we have done with United Utilities as well as our capability in the engineering services arena. Our large resource base and ability to ramp up quickly means that we are uniquely positioned to deliver such large projects to such demanding timescales.”
