As the nation's apex aviation regulatory body, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and efficiency of air operations. To strengthen its capabilities and modernize aviation governance, DGCA partnered with TCS to launch the e-Governance for Civil Aviation (eGCA) platform, powered by TCS DigiGOV™.
The eGCA platform is a comprehensive, integrated digital solution that centralizes and streamlines civil aviation processes across 12 directorates and over 300 services. These include licensing for pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers, and air traffic controllers; certification of aerodromes; issuance of air operator certificates; and oversight of airworthiness standards and air transport services by Indian and foreign carriers. The platform also supports the investigation of accidents and incidents, enhancing the DGCA’s regulatory oversight.
Through this digital transformation, TCS has enabled DGCA to offer efficient, secure, and transparent services to all stakeholders. The eGCA portal facilitates real-time service delivery, improving turnaround times by up to 30%, and reducing manual intervention. It ensures seamless data exchange, provides a unified identity across services, and enhances compliance monitoring through powerful data analytics and automation capabilities.
A landmark innovation under this initiative is the issuance of electronic licenses for pilots, making India the second country globally to implement such an advanced system, with approval from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This initiative introduces a unique, integrated e-logbook for pilots, enabling seamless integration with airline operators. Pilots no longer need to manually file daily flight experience, as the system automates rule validation and license eligibility, enhancing safety and operational efficiency.
The platform also automates the approval of complex domestic and international flight schedules, enabling real-time updates and minimizing delays. With built-in tools like mobile applications, chatbots, and cloud integration, the eGCA platform supports better planning, coordination, and decision-making at every level.
This transformation aligns with the Government of India’s vision for Digital India and good governance. By enabling a more responsive, transparent, and accountable aviation ecosystem, TCS and DGCA are together setting new benchmarks in regulatory excellence and operational agility, paving the way for innovation and growth in India’s aviation sector.
