The TCS Sydney Marathon makes its debut as the Southern hemisphere’s first Abbott World Marathon Major, with record participation, community impact, and AI-powered innovations elevating the race experience
SYDNEY | MUMBAI, September 1, 2025: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, celebrated a historic milestone as the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS, concluded its first race as an Abbott World Marathon Major (AWMM) – the first and only AWMM in the southern hemisphere. The 2025 TCS Sydney Marathon welcomed a record-breaking 35,000 participants from over 100 countries, with 350,000+ spectators on course, cementing Sydney’s place alongside New York, Boston, Chicago, London, Berlin, and Tokyo as one of the world’s most prestigious endurance running races.
AI was at the center of this year’s marathon experience, with TCS elevating the race with innovations ranging from RunConcierge, the world’s first AI-powered personal assistant for runners, to the Future Athlete Project, which uses digital twin technology to enable personalized training and health optimization for athletes. This landmark debut coincides with the 25th anniversary year of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the birthplace of the TCS Sydney Marathon, adding a layer of significance to the city’s sporting history. Since becoming a title partner in 2024, TCS has worked closely with event organizers to deliver innovations, community programs, and operational excellence. TCS has supported the TCS Sydney Marathon’s journey to achieving AWMM status, elevating the race to a world-class event.
Vikram Singh, TCS Country Head of Australia & New Zealand, said, “As title partner, TCS has been honored to support the TCS Sydney Marathon’s journey to this milestone, working alongside organizers, government, and the running community to help elevate the event to a global stage. This partnership reflects our deep and growing commitment to Australia, not just as a place where we do business, but as a community we are proud to be part of. It also provides a unique opportunity to connect with our customers in a setting that celebrates shared values of performance, resilience, and innovation."
TCS’ commitment to supporting community and accelerating sustainability through technological innovation was brought to life in this year’s event through three signature programs that connected global innovation with local impact:
TCS has built one of the world’s largest marathon partnership portfolios globally, with 14 races worldwide, including five of the seven Abbott World Marathon Majors. Through these events, TCS engages over 600,000 runners – including around 4,000 TCS customers and 8,000 employees each year – creating meaningful connections that go far beyond the race. This sustained global presence has played a key role in strengthening TCS’ brand, helping it grows its brand value from $2.34 billion in 2010 to $57.3 billion in 2025.
The TCS Sydney Marathon brings this global experience to a passionate Australian running culture, allowing TCS to showcase its commitment to community, health, innovation, and sustainability, and to strengthen its connection with customers in a uniquely local way. The TCS Sydney Marathon continues to be a powerful platform for community engagement and social impact. Since its inception, the event has raised over $25 million for charity, with the IMF as a key beneficiary. This year saw the largest-ever IMF fundraising team, alongside the TCS Mini Marathon, inspiring the next generation of runners. The marathon’s elevation to Abbott World Marathon Major status is expected to deliver a $300 million economic boost to Sydney and Australia in the next decade, showcasing the city’s beauty and hospitality to a global audience and reinforcing its legacy as a premier sporting destination.
