Going virtual
The COVID-19 pandemic dealt a body blow to businesses or processes that depend on connection, where in-person interaction is the bedrock of transparency. One such event was the annual general meeting (AGM) for shareholders of large corporates. Thinking ahead of the curve, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) decided to make sure that the maximum number of TCS shareholders had access to this annual fixture despite the pandemic.
The solution?
Just take it online! Over 1,300 TCS shareholders – an unprecedented number – were able to attend TCS’ 2020 virtual AGM this way.
COLLABORATION WITH NATIONAL SECURITIES DEPOSITORY LIMITED
The first step was collaborating with India’s National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) and using a cloud-based tool to ensure smooth and secure execution of the event. We designed the TCS AGM application to address shareholder questions and deliver feedback in real time; it became the core platform for the event. Equipped with a tailor-made solution, multi-layered backups, and comprehensive guidelines (from technical know-how to security instructions), this medium served as the basis for the virtual AGM. Shareholders had to simply register themselves on the NSDL portal prior to the event in order to receive a link to join the webcast on AGM day.
Virtual AGM, the TCS way

Safe and scalable
Secure authentication (including a biometric login), management of questions through real-time dashboards, content navigation via predictive search, instant content retrieval, and resolution of high-priority requests with instant review alerts were just some of the features of the application. An e-voting facility for all board resolutions made the process even more convenient for TCS shareholders.
SEAMLESS Q&A
The customized nature of the application ensured that answers to every shareholder question were reviewed in under a minute before being placed in the official response queue.
Multiple remote teams worked in synergy to deliver a frictionless end-user experience. And the outcome spoke for itself: The event saw a near-threefold increase in turnout, our highest-ever for an AGM.
