Accelerating 5G adoption by building network flexibility and security

As communications service providers become digital service providers, they need to build a robust, resilient and highly available underlying technology framework in line with Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). However, this means enabling network slicing, managing inter/intra slice control, and facilitating network programmability while ensuring security and standardizing of application layer interface. This can be only achieved by decoupling, leveraging AI/ML and cloud native applications and transforming the technology stack through extreme automation, virtualization, APIfication and orchestration. In addition, it requires transforming networks across Radio Access Network (RAN), transport, core and edge networks. The key steps to building a robust 5G network include:

  • Moving from non-standalone to standalone configuration
  • Ensuring maximum usage of existing network
  • Upgrading mobile backhaul
  • Ensuring network densification
  • Enabling successful C-RAN architecture deployment
  • Maturing into cloud native architecture
  • Managing network virtualization
  • Mapping BSS and OSS
