Tata Drives Employee Adoption of Social Platform

In an interview featured in The Wall Street Journal, CTO K Ananth Krishnan discusses social media platforms at work place, with specific focus on Knome.

The adoption of social media is proceeding at a furious pace among consumers, but it’s hardly going viral at work. Nonetheless, Tata Consultancy Services  CTO Ananth Krishnan said the global IT services company based in Mumbai successfully launched its own proprietary social platform, Knome, which is now used by more than 260,000 of its approximately 320,000 employees.

“Many people still struggle with the business purpose of social. It is associated with fun. The CFO won’t invest in social if people think it is just for fun. It has to be embedded into the work life of every person at the company,” Mr. Krishnan told CIO Journal.

The adoption of Knome was accelerated at TCS in several ways, according to Mr. Krishnan. It didn’t hurt that TCS has a young workforce, about 60% millennials, he said. Adoption was encouraged from the top down, by the CEO, too.
