New Tax Revenue and License Management System Enhances Business Functionality, Supports Taxpayer-friendly Services and Simplifies Tax Administration
Mumbai, India, September 9, 2008: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: TCS.BO, NSE: TCS.NS), a leading global IT services, business solutions and outsourcing firm, today announced that the City of Tucson, Arizona has successfully implemented TCS Tax Mantra® for tax revenue and licensing management. A highly configurable system, Tax Mantra® streamlines the tax administration and collection process for the City of Tucson, leading to more efficient workflow.
Web-enabled and secure, Tax Mantra® is a complete, user-friendly tax administration solution with fully integrated processes. It replaces and modernizes the City of Tucson’s old mainframe system of disparate and disconnected legacy applications that required manual and redundant work processes. Crucial for a city that according to a 2006 US Census Bureau estimate has a downtown population of 518,956 and growing. The new system enables the City of Tucson to streamline the business process of collecting taxes, provide taxpayer friendly services via the Web and integrate various departments to enable a paperless office.
Business owners in Tucson are now able to file tax returns and make payments through Tucson Tax and License Online. Filed tax returns and payments are transmitted overnight into the system and made available to City officials, enabling them to answer and resolve customer questions immediately. Additionally, Tax Mantra® has helped decrease the preparation time of a single sales tax audit packet by up to 4 hours. The City of Tucson also expects Tax Mantra® to help reduce the time it takes to issue a license from as long as 2 months to no more than 2 weeks.
“With deep knowledge of tax and revenue, we found TCS to be a trusted and reliable partner,” said Ellen Hitchings, Tax Administrator, City of Tucson. “This project has been the most successful software implementation in the City of Tucson’s history. TCS provided phenomenal client service. We were under budget and on time. Many of the tools and techniques used by TCS will now be implemented into future projects at the city to ensure the same level of certainty of results.”
Surya Kant, President of TCS North America said, “TCS has more than twelve years of experience developing integrated tax systems and solutions for global enterprises, and we are excited to partner with the City of Tucson and look forward to a rewarding relationship.”
Tanmoy Chakrabarty, Vice President and Head, TCS Global Government Industry Solutions Unit said, “Our proven methodology and expertise in implementing Tax and Revenue systems and managing large engagements of this nature were instrumental in the success of this initiative with the City of Tucson.”
Easy to maintain and upgrade, Tax Mantra® provides end-to-end tax administration business processing through an integrated e-filing interface for online filing of taxes. With provision for taxpayer internet based registrations, filing, paying and status inquiries, it helps modern tax and revenue agencies provide enhanced services to taxpayers and increase their satisfaction levels while reducing internal processing times. It has an automated, real-time based task list for users, a dashboard for viewing revenue and performance and automated audit selection.
Furthermore, Tax Mantra® provides real-time monitoring of collection of delinquent accounts and has modules for registration, processing and assessment, taxpayer services, workflow, performance monitoring and evaluation and role-based administration.
