Pioneering Initiative Will Help Talent From North East Enter IT Industry
Guwahati, August 26, 2008: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading IT services, business solutions and outsourcing organisation, announced the launch of its pioneering initiative to train and develop talent available in the North East of India. With a dedicated learning centre in Guwahati, Assam, TCS is the first Indian IT company to invest in the North East of India.
The new TCS Learning Centre is based at the sprawling IIT campus at Guwahati, the capital of Assam. It has the capacity to train up to 200 professionals at one time and is already operational. Trainees at the new TCS centre also have access to all facilities on the IIT Guwahati campus including classrooms, library as well as sport and recreational facilities.
The TCS Learning Centre is being used to conduct TCS’ globally recognised Initial Learning Program for fresh engineering graduates from the North East. TCS had signed an MoU with IIT-Guwahati and the state government of Assam in March 2008 to set up a dedicated training facility in the State and also collaborate with IIT, Guwahati in Research and Development efforts based on mutual interest.
The training facility was officially inaugurated by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh who also made a joint address to the current batch of TCS trainees as well as IIT students. “TCS has always been a pioneer in developing talent in the country. The dedicated training centre in Guwahati now extends this commitment to develop the abundant talent available in the North East,” said S Ramadorai, CEO and MD of TCS. “We are deeply honoured by the presence of one of India’s most dynamic leaders Dr Manmohan Singh at the training facility today.”
“Almost 500 people have already been trained at the Guwahati centre. This initiative to further enhance the suitability of talent here will help link talent from the North East of the country to the fast-growing Indian IT industry,” said Ajoy Mukherjee, Vice President and Head, Global HR, TCS.
TCS has been closely partnering with various states in the North East to implement several e-governance projects in the region. Our unique VAT solution has helped reduce tax evasion significantly and increase interoperability of various government machineries in the six North Eastern States of Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. Other key e-governance projects include the digitisation of the Assam Treasury and Assam Public Works Department have enhanced transparency and efficiency in government processes to benefit the State economy.
