SAI INTERNATIONAL : Akshat Praneet and Sampriti Pand
DAV Unit 8 : Sibaprasad Reddy and Spandan Dash
On a cloudy, yet humid morning at Bhubaneshwar, over 400 teams gathered with a lot of enthusiasm and expectations for the city edition of TCS IT Wiz. The quiz has been extremely popular here with the winning team a year ago, going on to become the national runner up.
The prelim got underway as Pickbrain went about explaining the importance of the quiz and the significance of platforms such as these. The questions were interesting and six schools that made it to the final were:
Sai International School - Akshat Praneet and Sampriti Panda
Loyola School - Pranav M and Surya Kiran
Mother's Public School - Pratyush R and Utkash Aditya
MBS Public School - Swapnil Mishra and Prabhu Prasad
DAV Unit 8 - Siba Prasad Reddy and Spandan Dash
BJB Jr College - Sayed Munib and Saurav Pattnaik
The final began with the boys from BJB Junior College getting off to an early start with good answers along with the duo from DAV. The other teams started slowly but were quick to catch up or get in range of the top two teams.
The onset of the buzzers created a lot of tense moments. The teams that knew the answers were unwilling to take risks while those who took half chances ended up with negatives. With BJB still in the lead, and two rounds to go, the battle looked interestingly poised.
In the round based on lateral thinking, the team from Sai International took two good strikes and that helped them draw level with the team from DAV. Just then a negative from the BJB team helped all the three top teams have a fair chance with one question remaining. The duo from Sai took the chance early on the final question and got it right to make the journey to Mumbai for the national round of the quiz. The DAV boys finished runner up as the BJB team missed out narrowly on the battle, they could have perhaps won.
The chief guest Dr. Shyam Sundar Pattnaik, the Vice Chancellor, Biju Pattnaik University of Technology, in a very youth friendly manner narrated a story to explain how one should not wait for the last question but take their chances as and they appear to be able to win. Mr. Manoj Panda, head TCS Bhubaneswar was also present as the chief guest gave away the prizes.
