In recent years, Indian telecommunications major Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) has been on a concerted journey of rapid digitization and expansion of service offerings. The company’s focus has been on leveraging its partner ecosystem to deliver newer products to its large subscriber base. As part of this initiative, Vi launched a digital marketplace platform called ViShop, where multiple partners can offer their products to Vi subscribers through bundled offerings.

Their support in rolling out bi-weekly enhancements has been instrumental in improving customer experience and onboarding new sellers. Thanks to this partnership, we’ve grown our non-telco offerings by 30x, with the value of transactions seeing an even more impressive multiplier.

Disturbance on the line
To get the ball rolling, TCS participated in defining the process to integrate various business processes, products, and service offerings involved in the creation of ViShop. A comprehensive deployment architecture was designed to ensure seamless connections with multi-cloud systems and integration with partner systems.
Making the right connections
Through ViShop, the telco has not only enabled digital engagement for its subscriber base, but also opened up an alternative revenue stream through a revenue sharing model with its partners. TCS played the primary partner and system integrator role in building the engine behind ViShop on the Liferay DXP platform and CMS, hosted on Google Cloud.
The design for ViShop also needed to take into account growth in the subscriber base while also addressing current high-performance needs of a large subscriber base. At the partner end, Vi needed a dynamic settlement model that could bring together one solution to fit all partners.
Ringing up the benefits
Through ViShop, Vi’s partners are now able to reach a large audience. In turn, Vi is able to create a digital engagement funnel for its user base. In addition to providing customers with the best-in-class shopping experience, ViShop’s insight-driven, cloud-native architecture delivers considerable savings to Vi as a combined telco and non-telco offering. The cherry on top? Increased customer loyalty and retention as a result of repeat customer business.
