Tata Consultancy Services and Discovery Education Partner with CMU to Extend the Ignite My Future in School Program that Instills Critical Thinking Skills and Offers Job Readiness to Local Pittsburgh Students
PITTSBURGH, PA | NEW YORK, NY, MAY 29, 2018 – Tata Consultancy Services, (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, and Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital education content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, have launched an Ignite My Future in School Day of Discovery in Pittsburgh, in partnership with the Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science. This professional training event connects local educators with Discovery Education experts to learn about Ignite My Future in School, understand its purpose and receive hands-on curriculum training.
Ignite My Future in School offers educators year-round assistance and curriculum support through free instructional resources on a digital platform. The curriculum embeds computational thinking strategies into subjects such as math, sciences, arts, and social studies. This interdisciplinary approach enables students to obtain critical thinking skills that will be required for 21st century careers across all industries.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the annual mean wage for all occupations in Pittsburgh is $50,070, while the annual mean wage for Computer Science (CS) occupations is $81,680, an indication of the positive impact that a STEM degree can have on students' success. Ignite My Future in School hopes to increase the number of young students who pursue CS and STEM degrees in Pittsburgh by inspiring them to develop a passion for technology at a young age.
At a national level, Ignite My Future in School aims to engage 20,000 teachers and 1 million US students by 2021. As a first step towards this objective, TCS and Discovery Education have already partnered with US school districts in Metro Washington, DC, Georgia, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin and California to launch this innovative program. Since debuting in 2017, IMFIS has provided training materials valued at more than $2 million and engaged over 8,000 teachers and 460,000 students from all 50 US states.
