Milestone event
The TCS Sydney Marathon 2026 will be remembered as a day of record-breaking performances, historic milestones, and unforgettable moments. With more than 40,000 runners taking part, course records falling and marathon history being made, Sydney once again showcased why it belongs as an Abbott World Marathon Major.
Sydney came alive this morning as over 10,000 runners took to the streets for the TCS Sydney Mini Marathon bringing energy determination and plenty of excitement to one of Australia’s most iconic courses.
Starting on Macquarie Street via the Royal Botanic Gardens Parade Grounds and finishing against the spectacular backdrop of the Sydney Opera House, the 5K race brought runners of all ages and backgrounds together with a shared goal, to celebrate their commitment to personal health and the wellbeing of their community.
One of the day's highlights was seeing so many young participants take to the course, including the bright young minds who reached the finals of the TCS Sydney Marathon goIT Challenge 2026 in partnership with the NSW Department of Education. Through creativity, technology, AI, and design thinking, these students developed innovative ideas aimed at creating a more sustainable future for marathons and mass participation events.
The atmosphere throughout the morning was electric, with veteran and first-time runners of varying abilities crossing the finish line.
The event was a testament to the power of community, bringing together runners, families, supporters, and volunteers in a shared celebration of health, connection, and achievement. As the TCS Sydney Marathon celebrates its second year as an Abbott World Marathon Major, we look forward to sharing the excitement of race day with you.
We would like to recognise everyone who contributed to making the event such a memorable occasion, especially the spectators who lined the course in support of the runners and the volunteers whose dedication helped bring the day to life.
