Challenge

DuPont wanted to create a better experience for its employees. 

A simple thing like access to leave information can improve employee experience. But for the Speciality Products division of DuPont, one of the world's largest producers of chemicals and science-based products, its legacy human resources management (HRM) system made the year-end maintenance process lengthy and tiresome. Also, the application was not very user-friendly and required several manual steps. There were other challenges such as:

  • Application had to be shut down for two weeks every year for year-end maintenance, blocking user access during that time.
  • Workflow failure during high load conditions caused major issues and increased the number of tickets raised.
  • Leave archival process was time-consuming and required continuous monitoring.
  • Employee bulk updates involved a high level  of manual activity, which was prone to error.
  • There was no provision to manage employees’ loss of pay.

The company realized that bringing in automation to improve efficiencies was the way forward.
 


Solution

TCS helps DuPont Speciality Products make its HRM system more user-friendly

DuPont Speciality Products worked with experts from TCS' Microsoft Business Unit (MBU) and leveraged solutions such as Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Power Platform to completely modernize its HRM portfolio. Our solution also provided DuPont scalability with a platform that supports low code, no code technology.

Here’s how we helped solve DuPont’s challenges:

Reduced year-end maintenance shutdown time to just 15 minutes from weeks earlier, using REST API. We also upgraded the code so the system could handle a higher number of records and new leave types.

Automated workflows by migrating all SharePoint workflows to Power Automate. This made it possible to complete in minutes tasks that would otherwise take days. For instance, custom code written in Java converted to Power Automate Button flows enabled tasks earlier done manually to be completed with a single click. And application forms converted to PowerApps made them user-friendly, responsive, and accessible from any device. What’s more, the migration was carried out without any inconvenience to users.

Automated the leave archival process by moving it to Power Automate. This reduced the processing time from over a month to just a few days and saved manual effort.

Made employee bulk updates easier by developing a bulk update tool with Power Automate. This enabled employee deactivation with a single click.

Managing employee loss of pay by automating the process with a Microsoft Power Apps-based application that we created. Equipped with duplication check functionality, the tool helps eliminate data repetition and has reporting and analysis features for data analysis.
