Overview
British Telecom, one of the biggest names in telecommunications, has diversified into third-party logistics (3PL).
3PL companies are external service providers for logistics requirements such as warehousing, distribution, and packaging. BT’s business goal was to win new contracts and cement its place as a leading 3PL service provider in the UK supply chain market.
The challenge: Aligning supply chain with new acquisition

The British conglomerate wanted to build multichannel order fulfilment and logistics solutions aimed at lowering customer operating costs, and enhance customer experience with accurate picking, packing, faster shipping, and low-cost delivery with near-real-time data insights.
The solution: Filling the gaps
BT worked with TCS to chart out a robust supply chain strategy for its 3PL customers
TCS implemented a third-party logistics solution using its supply chain assessment transformation toolkit. We assessed the wide-ranging external 3PL business requirements comprehensively alongside BT’s existing supply chain services. TCS’ supply chain transformation capabilities and assessment toolkits cover critical supply chain functions from order orchestration to dispatch, staging, configuration, and asset tracking and delivery tracking.
TCS’ core supply chain team defined BT’s business blueprint and identified gaps using benchmarks and the supply chain operations reference (SCOR) model. The requirements were then mapped using a human-centered design approach to resolve the fitment gaps and accelerate early requirement sign-off with stakeholders. TCS also developed a multitenant 3PL framework with an automated quality control pack to enable concurrent customer onboarding and leveraged the Transformation Delivery Methodology (TDM) to deliver minimum viable product (MVP) payloads.

BT was able to ace the 3PL game.
