The start and finish lines of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon are perhaps the most iconic of all races: runners begin and end the race in the Olympic Stadium that hosted the games in 1928. Steeped in more than 100 years of running history, Amsterdam's association with running began long before the 1928 Olympics. The first road race in the city happened in 1916. The first official marathon was held in 1975 and attracted over 300 runners.
Amsterdam, the fourth fastest marathon course in the world, sees participation from runners across the world, trying to achieve their personal best and take on world records. It is one of the few international road races with a Platinum Label from World Athletics, the global governing authority of athletics.
TCS is proud to celebrate 30 years in the Netherlands this year and has been the title sponsor of the Amsterdam Marathon since 2011. The event hosted over 45,000 runners from about 131 countries in 2019 and went on to become one of the biggest and most popular marathons in Europe. More than 45,000 participants will line up this year for the famous event. The TCS Amsterdam Marathon's picturesque course takes runners through the capital city's historic sights. The marathon kicks off at the Olympic Stadium and moves to the central arch of Rijksmuseum, the Netherlands' principal national museum. Runners continue along the banks of the Amstel River before entering the Vondelpark, Amsterdam's largest and most popular municipal park.
The TCS Amsterdam Marathon official race app enables participants to access features that enhance the event experience. Runners can share bib details on the app, allowing friends and family to track their progress. They can also share and compare stats with other participants and get provisional race results after crossing the finish line. The app helps stay connected to various social media sites so runners and spectators can share their excitement with the world.
Together we run
TCS is passionate about the well-being of our employees and the communities we live in. Be it business, life or running, we believe no one completes a journey alone, and the Amsterdam Marathon encapsulates this belief. Every year, TCS running teams take part in the marathon. This year, we have 35 teams taking part in the journey.
For a better world
This year's marathon will not only be about fitness and fun. Thousands of runners will run for a bigger cause—to raise money for charity. The official charity partner of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon is the Amsterdam UMC Cancer Center. It aims to cure cancer by integrating world-class research with healthcare and education and creating new possibilities for its patients.
Here's to history, health, and well-being. Here's to the TCS Amsterdam Marathon 2022!
