The 2024 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon delivered a remarkable boost to local economies, generating $50.3 million in economic activity for the city of Toronto, and $56.3 million for the Province of Ontario.
Marathon weekend is a powerful tourism driver that attracts tens of thousands of visitors from across Canada and around the world, filling up restaurants and hotels and contributing to local retail economies, cementing Toronto’s reputation as a dynamic, vibrant, world-class city.
The TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon proudly holds the title of Canada’s most sustainable race. For two consecutive years, it earned Evergreen Certification from the Council for Responsible Sport, showcasing its leadership in eco-conscious race management. It remains the only Canadian race to achieve Evergreen status, thanks in part to the ReScore app developed by TCS.
In 2024, the marathon reached zero-waste status, diverting more than 90% of waste from landfills. That same year, the Green Bib Program launched, allowing runners to skip shirts and medals in favour of donations —raising more than $20,000 for Trees for Life and Trans Canada Trail.
The 2025 marathon began breaking records early on, with the full and half distances selling out in June, months ahead of race day. And the list of milestones grew from there, culminating with some exciting wins, including Ben Flanagan taking the Canadian Men’s title in his first attempt!
Capturing the energy of Toronto’s dynamic street art culture, the 2025 finishers’ medal and official race t-shirt featured Toronto’s iconic Graffiti Alley — a public space turned into a canvas for connection.
Both the medal and shirt were co-designed by local graffiti artist #Durothethird, who is known for his colourful and community-inspired work.
