The relationship between TCS and New York Road Runners (NYRR)—and, in turn, the New York City running community—dates back to 2012, when TCS became the marathon’s technology sponsor, and then, two years later, its title sponsor. TCS’ presence as a core part of the city’s signature race is so widely known that it is no surprise that our event partnership was renewed in 2021 for eight more years.
This year, the expo will see more than 100,000 people walk through the experience.

On Sunday, November 3, more than 50,000 runners crossed the finish line of the TCS New York City Marathon in Central Park.
TCS first developed the TCS New York City Marathon app in 2013. In addition to serving the field of 50,000, the app allowed winner Sharon Lokedi’s mother, Rose, to track her daughter from their village near Eldoret, Kenya, in what was Sharon’s first marathon. Athletes are tracked by their loved ones millions of times every year, enabling them to show up on the course where they are needed most or cheered on from far away.

Our technology keeps communities informed as the event evolves, highlights fundraising avenues, and helps all of us integrate sustainable practices on the race weekend. Alongside the event, we inspire future generations to solve the world’s biggest challenges and honor the teachers preparing them to thrive.
NYRR is the first running body certified by the Council for Responsible Sport’s Standard for Organizations for its sustainability efforts. It works with vendors and agency partners to be eco-friendly and divert waste. NYRR encourages runners to practice sustainable behaviors, such as bringing reusable bags and water bottles, taking public transport, and disposing of gel wrappers following runs.
